NIKA Project Space is delighted to announce its participation in Art Dubai 2024, Middle East’s leading international art fair, taking place in March 1-3, 2024.

NIKA Project Space will participate in the Bawwaba section, curated by Emiliano Valdés, the chief curator of the Museum of Modern Art in Medellin, Colombia. Bawwaba, meaning ‘gateway’ in Arabic, focuses on solo exhibitions of artists from the Global South and artworks made in the 12 months prior to, or specifically for, Art Dubai. Valdés, has titled his presentation Sanación / Healing and aims to look at the ways artists use their practice as a place of reckoning, healing and coming together, whether this be through confronting social and political issues, engaging in critical dialogue, or creating a sense of community and social justice.

We will present the total installation by Mirna Bamieh, ‘Sour Things: The Kitchen’. Through this piece the artist delves into the symbiotic relationship between the fermenting cultures, the ever-changing landscape of emotions within confinement, and the deep-seated desire for control in the face of worldly uncertainties. The work unfolds as a captivating story, reflecting on a deep connection between the microcosms of fermentation and the macrocosms of human resilience, echoing the exploration of displacement, healing, and the enduring capacity to find beauty within containment.
