NIKA Project Space presents the artwork A Brief Commentary on Almost Everything, 2012, by Mirna Bamieh.
Intended as an intimate self-portrait, the artist has greatly slowed down the motion of a single yawn to the point that it almost reads as a photographic still. In doing so, the scene acquires an atemporal quality, whereby even the most intricate details assume the kind of monumentality typically associated with grand gestures. This video reflects Bamieh’s practice, through which she deconstructs various phenomena and behaviors, transforming them from trivial events into brief commentaries on nearly everything in life.
